Legendary tales cite a frugal baker who, in search of a snack for his family, combined leftover biscuit dough with cheese to create the now famous cheese straw. Since that time, Cheese Straws have been a family favorite for generations.

It is no surprise that the Community Service Center (CSC), an agency of the United Way of Southeast Louisiana, created its own unique combination utilizing this famous snack to further its mission.  CSC works with adult ex-offenders and their families, who are often on the fringes of the community, to provide re-entry assistance.  CSC offers its clients a second chance to lead a positive and productive life and become productive members of their families and their community.

Therefore, like the baker who did not discard the now famous ingredients, and created an enjoyable snack, CSC and its hard working staff and volunteers have achieved a 77% success rate with its clients.  Through ongoing support and the tools to succeed, these adults have stayed out of jail and contribute to the community.
